Punctuality

All students must be in school by 7.55 am and in tutor rooms
by 8.00 am.

Students who arrive late to school must sign in at the
Secondary School Office and then proceed
to class.
-
Reccurring lateness will first result in a breaktime
detention, then an afterschool
detention.
-
Students should wear a wrist watch as there is no bell to
signal the end of breaks at NCBIS.

End of Day Procedures
At the end of the school day students are expected to leave
the school premises as soon as possible.
Only students involved with an ECA are
permitted to remain at the school until 4.00
p.m. Students who are collected by private
transport should wait with the security
guard at the entrance to the school.
School Transport
-
Students must remember the following
when travelling on a school bus:
-
Be punctual! The bus will not wait for more than 3 minutes
after your pick-up time.
-
Behave as you would in school!
-
Help younger pupils if they travel on your bus.
-
Use your seat belt.
-
Report any problems to the bus monitor. If problems remain,
inform your Head of Key Stage.
-
You must go to your bus immediately after school ends. Buses
will not wait for pupils who are late.
If you cause a problem on the bus, the school has the right to
exclude you from school transportation.
If a student wishes a
friend to travel home with them a letter
from the parent or guardian must be given to
the Transport Department at least 24 hours
in advance. Permission will not always be
granted, but the student will be informed in
advance.
School Uniform
Key Stage 3 and 4 Dress Code
At NCBIS the following school uniform is to be worn by all
students:

school trousers, shorts or skirts*
(trousers/skirts should be knee length)

school polo shirt, long or short
sleeved* (any vest or t-shirt worn
underneath should be white)

school bodywarmer or fleece*
(no other jackets may be worn in school)
The above items must be school issue and purchased from the
school uniform shop. No alternative items
are permitted

hats/caps - non-school caps may only be
worn outside during cold weather or in

Presentation:
Students should come to school looking
smart. Make-up and nail varnish are not
allowed. Nails should be neat and clean.

All pupils with long hair must have it tied
back for all PE lessons. All jewellery must
be removed before the start of the lesson
For the sake of personal hygiene and safety,
all students are expected to change clothing
and footwear for PE, even if they have a
valid reason for not participating. They may
be asked to act as coach, referee, scorer
etc.
If pupils cannot participate in PE lessons,
they should hand in a note, dated and signed
by a parent or guardian. If a pupil has not
participated for 2 sessions, they are
required to bring a letter from their
doctor.
We advise all pupils to wear sunscreen when
outdoors.

Girls should be dressed in clothing suitable
for a professional
environment. Respectability is also an
issue. Female members of staff will make the
final judgment on any issues; if it is
judged that you have come to school
unsuitably dressed, you will be spoken to
and asked to change your clothes.

Behaviour and Discipline
Unacceptable Behaviour
The following unacceptable forms of
behaviour, among others, will not be
tolerated at NCBIS:

falsifying an absence note

misconduct on a school bus

using obscenities

using unauthorised items in class, e.g. mobile phones,
cameras, i-pods

misuse of mobile, internet and wireless technologies
General Sanctions
The school reserves the right to treat each case on an
individual basis, depending on the nature of
the offence.
These may be taken from the following list, and are in no
particular order.

A student could also lose privileges such as attending school
trips, representing a school team or having
unsupervised study periods and parent/guardian(s)
may be required to attend a meeting at
school.
For many violations there are fixed minimum sanctions
or procedures, for example:
-
dealing drugs –
expulsion
-
being under the
influence of or possessing drugs or
alcohol – external suspension &
professional evaluation required
-
fighting and play
fighting – internal suspension
-
lateness – detention.
NCBIS reserves the right to administer a drug test to any
student suspected of being under the
influence of drugs or alcohol. Parents will
be notified beforehand and, depending upon
the result, sanctions will be applied as
stated above.
Detentions
In the Secondary School there is a detention
system
in place. For
all detentions parents or guardians will be
notified by a detention slip which must be
signed and returned. 24 hours notice will be
given for after school detentions.
The types of detentions are:
-
20 minute detention
with the subject teacher
-
75 minute detention
after school
-
75 minute detention
with a member of the senior management
at weekend.
The level is determined by the teacher and where appropriate
he/she can miss a step or repeat a step.
Parents may also be asked to come and meet the Head of Key
Stage.
Restricted Items
MP3s, i-pods, mobile phones and cameras may be brought to
school but must be switched off and out of
sight during the school day. If a student is
found to be using these items during school
hours, he/she will be banned from bringing
them.
Mobile phones should not be used between 7.50 a.m. and 2.30
p.m. This includes the sending of text
messages. If you need to use a phone
urgently during school hours, please go to
the Secondary School Office.
Please note that NCBIS will not be held responsible for the
loss or damage of expensive personal items
brought to school.

Alcohol, drugs (unless prescription medication, in which case
the student should hand them in to the
school medical office), cigarettes,
tobacco, lighters or matches.
-
Roller skates, roller blades or skateboards.
-
Dangerous or offensive weapons/items and replica weapons
-
Dangerous substances of any description.
Pupils are NOT allowed to bring any of the
items listed above into school. Any pupil
who does bring inappropriate items to school
may expect them to be confiscated and
appropriate sanctions to be applied. |
