At NCBIS we
offer a caring and high quality education in a secure environment on
our unique campus for the international community of Cairo. We have
high personal and academic expectations for our students and are proud
of the varied and challenging learning opportunities that are provided
to our pupils.
Our educational approaches arise out of the best of government and
independent education systems, as well as the best practice in
international education. We prepare our international students for UK
GCSE and AS/A level examinations at age 16 and 18 respectively, and
also the UK Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs) at ages 7, 11 and 14.
Students in our Dutch Stream, launched in September 1999, are offered
a primary education closely aligned to the Dutch National Curriculum,
which prepares them for the "Cito-Toest" at 12. As a result, all of our
students are provided with an education that prepares them to enter a
schooling system anywhere, as well as universities in Egypt and
elsewhere throughout the world.
As a school, from the Board of Directors down to our administration
staff, we are committed to our vision for NCBIS - a vision focused
specifically on improving the quality of learning and the levels of
student achievement. This vision in turn informs and guides our
decision making, both at the strategic and day-to-day level.

General
Information
Originally founded in 1978
as Heliopolis British International School, New Cairo British International
School is a non-selective, non-denominational international school serving
Cairo’s international community. Children from 3 years to 18 years
(Nursery to Year 13) are admitted to the international Primary and Secondary
Schools. Our Dutch Stream admits children aged 2.5 - 12 years, after
which they enter the international Secondary School.
In September 1998, we relocated
from two small villas in Heliopolis to a superb new campus and re-opened
under our current name. Our purpose built school is in a fast developing
residential area called New Cairo, very close to an older district named
Kattemaya. It is easily accessible from Heliopolis, Nasr City and Maadi,
although we do have a significant number of students who travel from
as far away as Dokki, Zamalek and 6th October City.

The NCBIS campus has state
of the art facilities including a heated swimming pool, sports field
and all-weather sports courts, multi-purpose auditorium, a range of
science laboratories, art and photography rooms, music suites, four
information technology suites (including one dedicated to the
Primary School), a well resourced library and specially designed
teaching areas catering for the differing needs of Foundation Years,
Primary, Dutch, Secondary and Sixth Form students. Class sizes
are set at a maximum of 20 pupils in
the Primary School and 20 students in the Secondary School. The
average pupil/teacher ratio is 8:1, which includes additional teaching
support staff.

Both British and Dutch NCBIS
academic staff are fully qualified and experienced in their fields.
All members of the teaching staff have either British or Dutch qualifications
(as appropriate) and bring with them a wealth of current experience from
the UK/Holland or other international schools. The Heads of Schools have
held senior positions in the UK and/or at international schools. Many
other teachers have management or curriculum leadership experience in
the UK and elsewhere. Teaching Assistants support students and teachers
across the school.
