Year 7

Term 1

The spaceship and the Alien

  Haunted and Hunted

In Year 7, pupils are introduced to a number of basic drama skills through a variety of stimulus, both imaginative and factual.

Term 2 The Motorway (link to Geography)

Evacuation (link to English and History)

These skills include freeze-frame, polished improvisation, mime, key words, gibberish and storytelling.
Term 3 Play: ‘Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations’/’Humpty Dumpty’

  Exam (based on play) and end of year evaluation

Pupils are also encouraged to develop positive group, pair and independent work skills and are given a practical scripted examination in the summer term.

Term 1

Advertising

Pupils in Year 8 develop and build upon skills acquired in Year 7 through more challenging materials.

Term 2 Status

Soap Opera

Pupils also learn new skills, including hot seating, script writing and spontaneous improvisation.

Term 3 Play: ‘Animal Farm’/’The Diary of Anne Frank’

Exam (based on play) and end of year evaluation

Pupils also work together in a mixed group to write, perform and film TV adverts and a new Soap Opera before being practically examined in the Summer Term

Term 1

Rites of Passage/From Antigone to Rosa Parks

Melodrama

Pupils in Year 9 have the opportunity to deepen their acting skills through focused work on characterisation and the study, writing and performance of Melodramas.

Term 2 Shakespeare (link to English and Music)

Macbeth set design (link to Art)

The schemes in the second term support the English SATs with detailed study of Shakespeare in performance and set design in conjunction with art. 
Term 3 Play: ‘Mother Figure’/’Our Day Out’

Exam (based on play) and end of year evaluation

Their final skills are assessed in an end of Year practical examination based on Willy Russell’s play ‘Our Day Out’.
