At
NCBIS we recognise that post 16 education is essential for
those students who wish to go on to further education in
colleges and universities around the world or here in Egypt.
For
our international students, this means studying a range of
subjects at both the AS and A full level.
For our local Egyptian students, AS-level or A-level
qualifications are now often required for students with GCSE
or IGCSE qualifications wishing to enter Egyptian university
courses in medicine, architecture, engineering, information
technology and other similar subjects.
Our Sixth Form Studies Unit has been set-up to
accommodate both requirements.
The
school uses the EdExcel AS and A-level syllabi, students study
up to four AS subjects in their first year and up to three
further A2 units in the second year.
The subjects available at present include Biology,
Chemistry, Economics, English, French, General Studies,
History, Information and Communications Technology (ICT),
Maths, Music and Physics.
Other subjects may also be offered if there is
sufficient demand and appropriate staffing.
Students
will only be accepted into the Sixth Form if they have
achieved a minimum of 5 A*-C at GCSE.
Certain subjects such as Maths requires a B or above to
study at A level.

Like
all members of the NCBIS community, our Sixth Form students
are expected to work extremely hard, attend all lessons,
complete their assignments fully and on time, demonstrate
appropriate standards of dress and behaviour at all times and
set a good example to younger students.
The
academic progress of our Sixth Form students is regularly
monitored and assessed and these assessments, together with
general behaviour, timekeeping and the general attitude to the
courses of study help the school, parents and students make
well-informed decisions.

The
needs of individual students are carefully considered when
timetabling Year 12 & 13 studies. Where possible we try to cater for a wide range of AS of
combination to meet the individual students requirements.
We
would typically expect students to select 3 – 4 AS level
courses. Each AS
course will take 8 periods of classroom based teaching.
This will mean students will have 8-16 private study
periods. These
can be used for doing homework, extending the range of their
subject knowledge or completing assessment tasks.
Students are expected to be in school from
7.55am until 2.30pm.

Sixth Form students have a 6th
Form Common Room situated within the Secondary building for use during
their private study. Students
are expected to use their private study time responsibly.
Our Sixth Form students have access to ICT resources, careers and
university advice, as well as designated rooms for private study. We also
have a well-stocked library on campus that provides a relaxed working
environment and access to computer, internet and multi-media resources.
All students have access to up-to-date Information Technology
facilities including a wide range of ICT hardware and software learning
resources, either in one of our three ICT laboratories, the Library or
within specific curriculum study areas (such as the Art, Design and
Technology Suite or in the Science Laboratories).
