Science

In order to make sense of the world in which we live, children need to develop an understanding of themselves and their environment.

Practical experiences form the basis of the Science programme at the New Cairo British International School, with an emphasis on research comprehension skills. From the earliest years, science investigations enable the children to develop a greater depth of understanding of a range of scientific concepts and to build their confidence in tackling problems with increasing independence. The children are encouraged to discuss scientific ideas and to justify conclusions using evidence from experimentation.

Continuity and progression in science throughout the Primary school is achieved by following an adapted version of the UK Qualifications and Curriculum Authority's (QCA) scheme of work which is designed to support the programmes of study of the English National Curriculum. The core scheme Science Directions, which uses the topics of the scheme of work as its framework, encourages stimulating and investigative learning.

In the near future the Primary school will have its own purpose built science laboratory, as well as the support and expertise of Secondary school specialists. This will generate greater enthusiasm for science subjects and enables the children to reach higher standards of achievement.
